Ian's entry in Wisden

Ian’s entry in Wisden

Hands up if you know what Wisden is. It is something I have always been aware of but not really sure what it is. Well for those of you who don’t know Wisden is a Cricketer’s Almanack or Bible. It is a reference book that is published annually in the UK. It was founded in 1864 by an English cricketer and it has been published every year since then. It is a very small bright yellow book with many sections dealing with match statistics in the world of English Cricket, awards, comments about controversial decisions, overseas cricket etc etc, it is a thick book but it isn’t a book you would read from cover to cover, well I wouldn’t. One of the sections lists the statistics for all the matches played in the English County League teams like Yorkshire, Lancashire etc. The second division or Minor Counties as they are called includes Cheshire and the majority of players will be amateurs. Last year Ian played for Cheshire and had a good season, so good his statistics were included in the cricket bible Wisden. I’m wearing my proud mum face!
