Naan Bread

  • 250mls semi skimmed milk
  • 3tbsp natural yoghurt
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 2tbsp melted butter
  • 450g strong bread flour
  • 1.25 tsp fast acting dried yeast

  1. Mix all the ingredients together then work the dough for about 10 minutes till it is smooth then leave it in the bowl covered with a towel till   doubled.  Anything from 1 to 3 hours.
  2. Fold the dough then cut into 8- 10 pieces.
  3. Roll each piece into a rough naan shape then leave for 5 minutes.
  4. While the dough is resting heat a griddle pan and also the grill.
  5. Roll a piece of dough again then when it is as thin as you want slap it on the griddle and leave till it starts to bubble up.
  6. Slide the dough on to a plate then put it under the grill till it puffs up, watch it doesn’t rise so much that it catches on the heating element. , this doesn’t take very long.  When the bread is ready put it on a rack covered with a tea towel to keep it soft.
  7. While bread number 1 is cooking get the next one ready,  repeat the process till all the breads are cooked.
