31 day photo challenge

Written by  //  March 12, 2015  //  News, Photography  //  14 Comments

For some time I have been toying with the idea of doing a photography challenge.  There are many to choose from, 50 pictures with a 50mm lens, project 365 which is taking a picture every day for a year, project 52 where you take a picture each week etc. etc.  Many people post their pictures on public websites but I’m not ready to do that yet so my pictures are here where only a very select few can see them.  I have chosen to take a picture every day for a month and if it isn’t too onerous I will keep going.  But what pictures to take?  What do I do every day?  I eat and drink, so my project is to take a picture of food or drink every day for the month of March, the pictures won’t always be food that I cook.    I’m finding it quite tough especially the styling of the food, I don’t have any artistic thoughts in my head so I am cheating  (learning?) and scouring Pinterest for ideas. It doesn’t really help that the best place to get natural light is my utility room which is tiny so not a lot of room for manoeuvre.  I know that there is a huge amount of room for improvement but I won’t get better unless I take lots of pictures.  Here are my first twelve.

Well they all look very appetising – which is surely the essence of a good food photo.

They are a cross between a rock bun and a scone, created for Betty’s tea shops in Harrogate and York.
